2027 AFCONQ: Sports Minister makes bold prediction ahead of Ghana’s opening games

Ghana's Sports Minister Kofi Adams has voiced optimism about his nation's prospects in the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches. Despite the absence of several crucial players due to injury, Adams maintains faith in the remaining squad's abilities. Ghana will kick off their Group C campaign against Côte d'Ivoire at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké on the evening of 19th October, followed by a return match against The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium three days later.

Head coach Carlos Queiroz has had to make significant changes to the lineup after multiple senior players had to withdraw due to injuries, leading to late reinforcements ahead of the two crucial qualifiers. Despite these setbacks, Adams remains confident that the players currently available possess the necessary skill and determination to secure valuable points.

"We are hopeful that on the 24th of this month, when we travel to Bouaké, we will either draw or win our match against Côte d'Ivoire, and when we return on the 29th to face The Gambia, we will also secure a win," Adams stated to Accra-based Max TV. The Black Stars, who are four-time African champions, aim to recover from their disappointing 2025 AFCON campaign in Morocco, where they finished at the bottom of their qualifying group.

Following the conclusion of the international window, Ghana will face a friendly match against Morocco at the Grand Stade de Tanger on 4th October.
