Video: EOCO clashes with Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah

On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the Accra High Court Complex, security personnel from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) engaged in a physical altercation with lawyers and supporters of detained nurse Salomey Baffoe Awiti. The episode was sparked by the MP for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, who was representing the arrested nurse.

Videos went viral showing a female security officer blocking the MP's exit from a vehicle. A heated exchange ensued before a scuffle broke out between security operatives and members of the legal team. Eventually, a defense team member opened the vehicle door, allowing Mr. Awuah to depart, with security personnel briefly pursuing his car.

The incident stemmed from allegations that the MP had not responded to formal invitations to aid the investigation into a controversial "Ghana Jollof" TikTok account. The MP's camp denied any official invitation, claiming the move was politically motivated to silence his defense of Ms. Baffoe Awiti. Ms. Baffoe Awiti, a 40-year-old mother of three from Hansua in Techiman Municipality, is currently in custody, charged with abetment of crime related to the alleged false news published on the TikTok account.

Police claim forensic evidence links her to the account's alleged primary operator, Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, who is said to reside in the United Kingdom. The legal teams convened at the High Court for a bail application hearing, but due to the MP's request for additional time, the proceedings were delayed until Thursday, September 24, 2026.
