US-Iran talks resume, Syrian President considers election and digital dirham symbol adopted

This week, diplomatic discussions between Iran and the United States resumed, with both nations engaging through intermediaries at the UN General Assembly. This marks a significant development, as the last substantive negotiations between the two countries ended in July following the collapse of an interim accord.

During the international gathering, Syrian President Ahmad Al Shara indicated he may seek re-election if circumstances warrant, though he currently prioritizes his responsibilities in the transitional phase of the nation's political landscape. The conflict in Yemen continues, with the Houthi rebels clashing against pro-government forces for supremacy over the strategic Kahboub mountain range located in the south-western part of the country.

In a separate matter closer to home, the United Arab Emirates gathered in Dubai to pay tribute to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, upon the passing of his brother, Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid. Sheikh Ahmed was interred on Tuesday.

On a technological note, the official inclusion of the dirham currency symbol in Unicode, the organization responsible for regulating emojis and digital characters, has been confirmed. This development underscores the increasing prominence of the UAE's national currency, the dirham, in the digital realm.
