US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin has been invited to attend the G20 summit in Miami in December. This follow-up to a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in New York, during the UN General Assembly. Rubio hopes that this invitation will provide an opportunity for Putin to engage with other world leaders, in an effort to resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The G20 summit is a forum where leaders from the world's largest economies meet to discuss global issues and coordinate responses to challenges.
