Three-day remand for two men as Sarawak police probe convenience store fire cases

KUCHING, Sept 23 — Two men were remanded for three days by the Magistrates’ Court to help investigate convenience store fires, the Borneo Post reported. The 40-year-old and 23-year-old suspects appeared before Senior Court Registrar Syazwani Sajeli, who approved their remand after hearing arguments from investigating officer Insp Tan Chiang Fook and their lawyer Daniel Ling.

The court ordered the suspects to be held from Sept 23 to Sept 26 under Section 436 of the Penal Code. Both men were arrested in connection with incidents at a Kuching convenience store on Sept 20. The 40-year-old was apprehended in Sibu on Sept 22, while the younger suspect was taken into custody in Sarikei on the same day. This case is one of two reported incidents of mischief by fire at the same convenience store chain in Kuching and Sri Aman on Sept 20. Three individuals have been arrested and remanded to aid the ongoing investigations.
