South East commission unveils 200-hectare farm project in Enugu

The South East Development Commission has launched a 200-hectare integrated agricultural project in Nomeh Unataeze, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State. The project, part of the South East Agro-Development Programme, aims to generate over 1,000 direct jobs when completed. It combines large-scale production, mechanization, processing, skills development, and market access.

The facility will feature dairy farming, poultry, fisheries, greenhouses, fodder production, agro-processing, renewable energy, and mechanization, as well as practical agricultural training. The initiative, spearheaded by Enugu State Governor Dr Peter Mbah and SEDC Chairman Dr Emeka Wogu, highlights the benefits of collaboration among government institutions.

Unlike traditional projects focusing on a single crop, the Nomeh facility is designed as an integrated system where different components complement each other. This approach aims to reduce waste, share infrastructure, and improve overall productivity. The project is expected to stimulate economic activity beyond its physical boundaries, benefiting surrounding communities through training, out-grower programs, and access to agricultural inputs, technical support, and market opportunities.
