Punjab to Reportedly Slow Down Mobile and Internet Services Amid Protests

The Punjab government has reportedly asked authorities to lower mobile and internet speeds starting from September 27, as planned protests draw nearer. According to Geo News, this request follows the intensification of security preparations in anticipation of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s march towards Islamabad scheduled for the same date.

The measure would involve reducing mobile and internet speeds rather than completely cutting them off. However, the authorities have not yet made public which regions would be impacted or for how long the restrictions might last. This decision is part of a broader set of security arrangements being put in place ahead of the protest.

In addition, Punjab has sought the presence of Rangers in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, and Mianwali to aid law enforcement in maintaining order. Furthermore, extra police personnel are being stationed as authorities brace for the political activity and potential disturbances along routes leading to Islamabad.
