Peter Okoye tells court he received over $800,000 in P-Square royalties

Peter Okoye testified in a Federal High Court in Lagos that he received over $800,000 in royalties from France-based organization SACEM for songs recorded by the former group P-Square. Okoye made this disclosure while appearing virtually before Justice Alexander Owoeye. His brother Jude Okoye, represented by lawyer Clement Onwuewunor, questioned him about earlier claims that Jude delayed providing him with P-Square's royalty records, which were requested in 2022.

However, Okoye disagreed, stating he had asked for the records earlier in 2022 and that Jude delivered them six days later, on October 22. When asked for proof, Okoye admitted he did not have any documents or evidence to support his earlier claim. Okoye confirmed he received the royalty statement from Jude, covering earnings from 2016 to 2022, including payments linked to Lex Records.

He stated he sought the records due to interest from buyers of the P-Square music catalogue. Okoye rejected Jude's claim to a share of the SACEM royalties, asserting the money belonged to him and his twin brother Paul. The SACEM agreement, signed by Jude, was not signed by Okoye or Paul, he claimed. Regarding the 10 songs generating SACEM royalties, Okoye confirmed they were indeed P-Square songs.

He stated he had previously given Jude 25% of his SACEM earnings but denied Jude demanding quarterly payments afterward. When questioned about claims he received $800,000 from SACEM between 2016 and 2026, Okoye admitted receiving the funds, yet insisted they belonged to the artists and Jude received none. Okoye denied discussing the money with Jude, who he claimed was not part of P-Square.

He confirmed they conducted business through Northside Entertainment Limited and that Jude directed some of the group's music videos. The court adjourned the case until December 8 and 9, 2026, for further proceedings.
