NSCDC arrests truck driver, two others for vandalising NNPC pipeline in Abuja

Three individuals were apprehended in relation to the desecration of an NNPC pipeline in Abuja, according to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The NSCDC FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press conference at the Kwali Divisional Office. The arrest came after days of surveillance conducted by the NSCDC's tactical team, which was spurred by credible intelligence.

The disrupted pipeline, a crucial supply line for crude oil and petroleum products, had already been severed when the suspects arrived at the scene. Upon spotting the NSCDC operatives, the culprits fled and abandoned the severed sections of the pipeline. The suspects, identified as Maitama Inuwa, Yahuza Danlami, and Yasir Abdulrahman, were arrested along with the truck they were using, which had the registration number MAK 159 XA (Niger).

Preliminary investigations have revealed four other suspects at large, and the NSCDC suspects a larger criminal network is involved in the desecration and illicit sale of the stolen pipeline components. The commandant emphasized the risks this criminal activity poses, including financial losses and environmental degradation, and urged residents along pipeline corridors to report any suspicious activity.
