Netflix releases trailer for Brad Bird's Ray Gunn

Brad Bird, known for directing beloved animated films such as The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille, has returned with his latest project, Ray Gunn. This new animated feature is set to premiere on Netflix in December and is being described as a neo-noir science-fiction mystery. Netflix recently unveiled the official trailer, which showcases retro-futuristic elements like flying cars, jet packs, laser guns, aliens, and a sultry femme fatale. The director himself expressed his anticipation for the film's release.

Bird has been contemplating Ray Gunn for the past three decades, working on other film projects while keeping the script in a filing cabinet at Warner Brothers. The film's inspiration stemmed from Bird's hearing the opening of the B-52s' "Planet Claire," which he initially mistook for a cover of Henry Mancini's theme music from the classic TV show Peter Gunn.

As a passionate fan of film noir and hard-boiled detectives, Bird conceived the idea of a futuristic detective named Ray Gunn, a clever play on the word "raygun." He aimed to blend film noir and hard-boiled detective stories with comedy and action, far beyond the typical noir film.
