Meta pitches new privacy protections for Muse and its smart glasses

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled enhanced privacy safeguards for the company's AI-driven products during the Connect 2026 keynote. The focus was on Meta's personal AI agent, Muse, which will soon utilize a system called Muse Confidential VM. This new version will encrypt user data so thoroughly that even Meta itself would be unable to access it. The Muse Secure VM, where each Muse AI currently operates, will remain unchanged.

Zuckerberg also addressed the privacy features of Meta's smart glasses, highlighting safeguards already integrated into the devices. These include a visual indicator light that signals when a photo or video is captured, and a mechanism that halts video recording if the light is interfered with. The company is now working on private processing for specific AI functions in the glasses.

Zuckerberg explained that user data would be isolated in a protected server environment, inaccessible to Meta or any other party, employing technology also utilized for WhatsApp. This feature, initially targeted at private translations, is expected to be released soon.
