Manhyia South MP declined two invitations in February, attempted arrest was lawful – EOCO

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) clarified its attempted arrest of Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah on September 23, stating it was part of a lawful process to secure his attendance in an ongoing investigation. This clarification came after a video surfaced on social media depicting an altercation between EOCO officers and the MP immediately after he left the Accra High Court.

Initially, EOCO had invited Baffour Awuah twice in February 2026 to cooperate with the investigation, but these invitations were ignored. The Office proceeded with steps to ensure his presence, considering Wednesday's attempted arrest as one of those lawful measures. However, the arrest was halted when the situation escalated, making it unsafe to proceed further.

Baffour Awuah then sought refuge at Parliament, despite its being on recess. The Office acknowledged parliamentary privileges and immunities but emphasized that they do not exempt an individual from the law. EOCO stated that the investigation is still active and would review the incident before deciding on further actions.
