Malaysia, China meterai MoU pacu kerjasama pengangkutan

Malaysia and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Beijing yesterday, forging a bilateral framework encompassing land, rail, maritime, air transport, and logistics sectors. The ministry of transportation said that key areas of focus will include exchange of technical expertise, capacity building, use of AI, green transport, and low carbon infrastructure development.

The MoU was signed by Malaysia's Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook and his Chinese counterpart Liu Wei, following a meeting in Beijing the previous day, where they discussed ways to broaden strategic cooperation in the transport sector and enhance mutual integration, efficiency, and capabilities of their respective transport systems.

The cooperation is expected to bolster Malaysia's ability to manage infrastructure, strengthen supply chain capabilities, attract Chinese technology investment, and solidify Malaysia's role as a cross-strait transport hub, according to the statement. Loke also witnessed the signing of the MoU on Civil Aviation Safety Cooperation between Malaysia's Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and China's Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), which will cover certification, licensing, and monitoring of airlines, applications, and aviation operations, and ease movement of goods and aeronautical services between the two countries.

The MoU is also set to strengthen Malaysia's civil aviation safety standards, reduce technical process divergence, and facilitate movement of products and aeronautical services between the two nations. The minister also paid a respectful visit to the National Railway Administration of China's administrator, Song Xiude, to exchange views on railway development, safety supervision, capacity building, and the use of technology in railway systems.
