Malaysia, China sign MoU to boost transport cooperation

Malaysia and China have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to bolster bilateral transport cooperation, covering land, rail, maritime, and air transport sectors, as well as logistics. The agreement, signed by Malaysian Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook and his Chinese counterpart Liu Wei in Beijing, aims to exchange technical expertise, build capacity, leverage artificial intelligence, promote green transport, and develop low-carbon infrastructure.

The MoU is expected to enhance Malaysia's policymaking, improve supply chain efficiency, attract Chinese technology investment, and solidify Malaysia's status as a regional transport hub within ASEAN.

Additionally, Malaysia and China have signed another MoU focusing on civil aviation safety cooperation. This agreement, involving the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia and the Civil Aviation Administration of China, will streamline qualifications, certification, aviation organization oversight, and flight operation licensing.

It is anticipated to elevate Malaysia's civil aviation safety standards, minimize duplication in technical processes, and facilitate the exchange of aeronautical products and services between the two nations.

During the signing ceremony, Loke also paid a courtesy visit to China's National Railway Administration administrator Song Xiude. The discussions centered on rail sector development, regulation, operational safety, capacity building, and the application of technology in rail systems. The visit underscores the strong, mature relationship between Malaysia and China, highlighting both countries' dedication to translating their bilateral ties into practical and mutually advantageous cooperation in the transport domain.
