Jamui molestation accused may have links to sand, liquor smuggling mafia, police say

Two young victims, a boy and a girl, were allegedly molested in Jamui, India. The incident occurred after the minors went for a scooter ride to the hilly outskirts of the town. Police have identified Nandan Yadav and his accomplice, Hareram Yadav, as the main accused. Both men, aged 25, are undergoing treatment at a hospital after being injured during an encounter with the police.

According to deputy inspector general Rakesh Kumar, Nandan and Hareram were hiding at the riverbed outside Pratappur village when police conducted a raid based on a tip-off. Nandan, who works as a tractor driver, allegedly opened fire when the police approached, sustaining a gunshot injury to his right leg. Police recovered a country-made pistol from Nandan, and investigations are underway to determine its source and usage in other crimes.

The men are suspected of involvement in illegal sand and liquor smuggling, as videos and photographs allegedly showing Nandan consuming liquor were found on his social media accounts. The victims, who are school students, remain traumatized and making extended questioning difficult. Police are examining the locations shown in the material and are working to file a chargesheet at the earliest.
