Iran 'presents US with road map for regionwide ceasefire and Hormuz reopening'

Iran has presented the United States with a comprehensive roadmap aimed at ending the ongoing conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The proposal includes a regionwide ceasefire lasting up to 60 days, a phased reopening of the strategic waterway, and an end to the US blockade on Iran. These suggestions emerged from talks held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, mediated by Qatar, Pakistan, and Egypt.

The Iranian proposal also calls for an end to attacks on Arab neighbors and a timeline for negotiations aimed at resolving differences with Washington. Although it remains unclear whether the US has agreed to the Iranian roadmap, reports suggest US President Donald Trump has ruled out lifting the blockade until Iran demonstrates sufficient goodwill.

The roadmap appears to be a detailed plan for future negotiations, repackaging the outcomes of previous discussions and prioritizing urgent issues. According to sources, the talks commenced with a meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US President Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Subsequent discussions involved experts and diplomats from both sides.

Prior to the meetings, US President Trump had called for "complete economic isolation" on Iran, urging the international community to impose sanctions until the country ceased its hostile actions, abandoned its nuclear ambitions, and stopped supporting terrorism. During the UN General Assembly, Trump emphasized the importance of unity in achieving a world free of Iranian terror, emphasizing that the conflict had weakened Iran and that oil prices would plummet due to the ongoing hostilities.
