I thought it was a kidnapping – Baffour Awuah explains dramatic escape from EOCO officers

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, the Manhyia South MP and lawyer, recounted his recent escape from Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) officials. The incident unfolded following his media appearance after a court proceeding. According to Awuah, a woman contacted him, informing him that she needed his presence at EOCO. However, her approach to escorting him to the office immediately raised suspicions.

"She firmly held my wrist, with the greatest of respect. I've never come across a woman that strong before," Awuah recounted. He managed to break free from her grip and proposed driving to EOCO in his own vehicle. The woman, however, refused and insisted on using their vehicle. She also claimed that EOCO had contacted him on three previous occasions, a claim that Awuah dismissed.

He then invited her to travel with him in his car, but the EOCO official persisted in his demand to enter their vehicle. Awuah, who suspected a kidnapping attempt due to the official's refusal to show identification, decided to drive himself to EOCO once the office was prepared to act appropriately. He firmly rejected the notion that he was fleeing a lawful arrest, asserting that it was an "unlawful arrest" and an attempt to abduct him by individuals unwilling to cooperate with the law.

Seeking sanctuary at Parliament was, in his view, justified as it is a common practice when facing kidnappers.
