‘Ghana Jollof’ Case: High Court adjourns Salomey Baffoe’s bail application hearing to Sept. 24

The High Court in Accra has postponed to September 24 the bail hearing for Salomey Baffoe, who is charged with facilitating the dissemination of false information via a TikTok account known as 'Ghana Jollof'. The delay came after the prosecution requested additional time to respond to the defense's bail application. Assistant State Attorney Carl Afedzi Forson informed the court that he had been given notice of the bail application on Friday but the State had not yet been assigned a lawyer to address it.

Consequently, the prosecution asked for a brief adjournment to prepare and submit their response. Baffoe's legal counsel, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, disagreed, asserting that the case concerned Baffoe's freedom and thus should be handled without the same timeline restrictions as a civil case. He pointed out that the prosecution had been served with the application and stated that the State had not claimed it had been mistreated.

Awuah further contended that there was ample time for the prosecution to respond and warned that further delays could jeopardize the bail application's purpose, given Baffoe's nearly two-week custody by the time the State responds. The court agreed that Baffoe's liberty was on the line and assured that the State would not be taken lightly.

As a result, the court granted the adjournment and directed the prosecution to submit any relevant processes and serve them on the defense by 9:00 a.m. on the new date. Baffoe remains in custody while awaiting a decision on her bail application.
