Eriksen to return to Denmark after parting ways with Wolfsburg

Former Tottenham, Inter Milan, and Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is set to return to his home country of Denmark following his departure from Bundesliga 2 side Wolfsburg on Wednesday. The 34-year-old has been recuperating from an on-pitch collapse that occurred during a friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine in June, which ultimately led to the game being abandoned. This incident saw Eriksen suffer a cardiac arrest and require resuscitation on the field.

Eriksen was able to leave the pitch without assistance after receiving medical treatment, and he was subsequently cleared to return to the lineup. Prior to his collapse, Eriksen had already experienced a cardiac arrest during a Euro 2020 match against Finland five years ago, for which he underwent six months of recovery. Since then, he has managed his condition with a pacemaker fitted.

In a statement, Eriksen expressed that it is currently important for him to be near his family in Denmark. Over his time at Wolfsburg, the Dane played 34 matches, contributing with 10 assists and scoring three goals.
