Denmark midfielder Eriksen leaves Wolfsburg by mutual consent

Christian Eriksen has officially left VfL Wolfsburg by mutual agreement, concluding his time in Germany after collapsing during an international friendly three months ago. The 34-year-old Danish midfielder was under contract with the German second-tier club until June 2027 but requested an early departure to be closer to his family in Denmark.

Eriksen, who has not played a competitive match since June, suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark's match against Ukraine five years ago. Following the incident, he was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) that enabled him to resume his top-flight career. In a club statement, Eriksen expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to return home.

Wolfsburg managing director Dieter Hecking noted that Eriksen's decision was solely his own, despite his limited time with the club. Eriksen joined Wolfsburg as a free agent last year after leaving Manchester United, where he made 34 appearances in a single season. His illustrious career also includes stints at Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, and Brentford.
