Wolfsburg terminate Eriksen's contract by mutual consent

VfL Wolfsburg and Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen have mutually agreed to terminate the playmaker's contract, according to the Bundesliga club. The decision ends Eriksen's tenure with the Wolfsburg, which was set to expire in June 2027. The 34-year-old Danish international had previously collapsed during a friendly match against Ukraine in June, and suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark's Euro 2021 opening match against Finland.

Eriksen recently announced his intention to return to Denmark for rehabilitation purposes. In a statement, Eriksen expressed his desire to be close to his family and thanked the club for reaching a mutual agreement. He acknowledged that his time at Wolfsburg was marked by both highs and lows and recognized the club's strong position as it aims to return to the Bundesliga.

Eriksen signed with Wolfsburg as a free agent a year ago, making 34 appearances and contributing with three goals and 10 assists. Wolfsburg's Managing Director Sport Dieter Hecking stated that the club agreed to Eriksen's request to cancel the contract. Hecking praised Eriksen's achievements during his short time at the club, noting that he has left a lasting impression on teammates, staff, and fans.

Eriksen's previous club experiences include stints at Ajax Amsterdam, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, and Manchester United.
