'Call your appointees to order, this is not the Ghana we want' - Minority to Mahama

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has told President John Dramani Mahama to remind his appointees to act within the law after an incident involving the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). The altercation occurred at the Accra High Court on September 23rd when officials from the EOCO allegedly tried to arrest Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.

Awuah was there to support social commentator Salomey Baffoe, who was there for a bail hearing. The details of the arrest attempt, such as whether Awuah had been formally invited by the EOCO or the legal basis for the arrest, are still uncertain. Following the incident, Awuah attempted to leave in his car, leading to a scuffle with the officials.

The Minority Leader criticized the government's actions, urging Mahama to ensure state institutions operate lawfully. He questioned Mahama's legacy, asking what he would say about his administration's achievements if he were quietly reflecting on it. Afenyo-Markin stressed that while accountability is necessary, state bodies must act according to the law and not exceed their legal mandate.
