Ayariga pledges stakeholder-led approach to Nzema, Kokomba Market redevelopment

Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Mahama Ayariga has committed to a stakeholder-led approach to the redevelopment of the Nzema and Kokomba Markets at Agbogbloshie. This pledge was made on September 23, 2026, during a visit to the markets where Ayariga assessed their condition and spoke with market leaders. The government's aim is to construct modern markets that enhance the trading environment while safeguarding the livelihoods of those who rely on these facilities.

Ayariga assured the traders that they would be integral to the redevelopment process, leading discussions on its implementation and the allocation of funds. He emphasized that the redevelopment would cater to the specific needs of each market, focusing on reducing congestion and expanding economic opportunities for traders. Additionally, Ayariga plans to collaborate with the Ministers for Lands and Natural Resources and Finance to identify funding sources for the project.

Market leadership welcomed the government's commitment to consultation and expressed readiness to work in partnership on this initiative.
