Agbogbloshie market redevelopment: Nzema, Kokomba traders won’t lose businesses – Mahama Ayariga

Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has committed to a stakeholder-led approach for the redevelopment of the Nzema and Kokomba Markets at Agbogbloshie. This pledge was made on September 23, 2026, during a market tour alongside the Minister for Transport and the Accra Metropolitan Mayor. The markets were assessed, and discussions with market leaders took place to understand their needs and expectations better.

Ayariga emphasized the government's goal to construct modern markets that enhance the trading environment while safeguarding the livelihoods of market traders. He assured the traders that they would be integral to the redevelopment process, participating in decision-making regarding construction and allocation of funds. The minister highlighted the plans would be tailored to each market's specific conditions, addressing issues such as congestion and enhancing economic prospects for traders.

Additionally, Ayariga announced plans to collaborate with the Ministers for Lands and Natural Resources and Finance to explore potential funding avenues for the redevelopment. Market leaders welcomed this approach, expressing their readiness to cooperate on the project.
