Detention: El-Rufai speaks on silence of friends he stood by in the past

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has spoken on the silence of some of his former friends and colleagues amidst his current detention. In a statement titled "My Relationships and the Aftermath", El-Rufai expressed that he does not resent those who have not stood by him. He explained that his decisions to support people and causes throughout his life were driven by his Islamic faith, Arewa upbringing, personal values and conscience.

Despite his actions being guided by conviction, El-Rufai acknowledged that those he had supported were free to make their own choices now. Some might speak in his support, while others might remain silent or distance themselves from relationships. El-Rufai emphasized that the nature of relationships can be revealed during difficult circumstances and that the past few months might cause him to reassess certain relationships.

However, he stated that such reassessment should not be interpreted as condemnation or reproach. El-Rufai reiterated that he bears no resentment towards anyone who chooses not to support him. He concluded by expressing that he is not seeking revenge or retribution, and that ultimate accountability belongs to Almighty Allah.
