Anwar to meet 21 Chinese business leaders in Shanghai and Hangzhou as Malaysia courts fresh investment

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is set to meet with 21 Chinese business leaders in Shanghai and Hangzhou as Malaysia seeks to attract new investments into the country. Anwar's agenda includes a roundtable business engagement and a keynote address at the WorldSkills Conference 2026. Following the conference, he will attend the opening ceremony of WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, officially inaugurated by Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 is a significant platform for showcasing technical and vocational skills excellence, with Malaysia's 22 participants competing in 21 skill categories with the "Road to Gold" agenda to secure Malaysia's first gold medal.

The Prime Minister's delegation will then travel to Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, by high-speed train for the second leg of the visit. During his stay, Anwar will engage in one-on-one business meetings with AgiBot, Huawei, Alibaba Group, Geely, and ZTE Group. He will also attend a welcoming dinner hosted by Li. Anwar is set to launch his book "Rethinking Ourselves: Justice, Reform, and Ignorance in Postnormal Times," which has been translated into Mandarin.

With China being Malaysia's largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years, total bilateral trade reached US$113.82 billion (RM456.68 billion) from January to August this year. Anwar arrived in Shanghai and Hangzhou for a three-day working visit on Tuesday.
