Anwar calls actions of Negeri Sembilan MB, exco ‘uncivilised’, disrespectful

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his disapproval of the actions taken by the Negeri Sembilan menteri besar and his state executive councillors. Anwar stated that the royal institution must be preserved and respected, and any differences of opinion or disputes should be raised through proper channels. He deemed the decision made by the menteri besar and former exco members to be uncivilised and disrespectful.

Anwar questioned their mandate to question the position of the state ruler and emphasized that he could not imagine a Malay leader tabling a motion to remove a Malay ruler. He firmly stated that such actions were a grave offence and that the federal government would defend the constitution if it were tarnished or violated. On September 16, members of the Negeri Sembilan executive council stated that the removal of Tuanku Muhriz as the Yang Dipertuan Besar in April was legitimate, and Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja afar became the new ruler.

However, the state's Dewan Keadilan dan Undang disagreed, maintaining that Tuanku Muhriz remained the legitimate ruler. The Attorney-General's Chambers rejected a proclamation seeking to remove Tuanku Muhriz, stating that the menteri besar and exco members lacked the power to do so. Tuanku Muhriz subsequently revoked the appointments of the 10 executive council members, citing their breach of oaths of office. Anwar met with Tuanku Muhriz the following day.
