Anwar, Ahli Parlimen Pendang selesai saman fitnah secara baik

Perdana Menteri Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, has concluded a defamation lawsuit against fellow MP Awang Hashim, stating that the matter was resolved amicably in 2023. The lawsuit was initiated by Awang Hashim in the House of Representatives lobby three years ago, alleging that Anwar made divisive statements during a media briefing on February 21, 2023.

Anwar's lawyer, Sankara Nair, informed the High Court that both parties agreed to settle the dispute amicably, with Anwar withdrawing the lawsuit without the option to file a new one, and there being no order for costs. Awang Hashim's lawyer, Yusfarizal Yusoff, confirmed this, and the Attorney-General, Roslan Mat Nor, dismissed the lawsuit in accordance with the agreed terms.

Both parties expressed their decision to resolve the matter after agreeing that there were more pressing issues to address for the benefit of the people and the nation. They also considered the implications of taking the defamation case to court, including the litigation costs that would need to be borne. Awang Hashim fully apologized and retracted all his statements on or around February 21, 2023, which formed the basis of this legal action, and agreed not to repeat or republish any such statements or statements with the same or substantially similar meaning in the future, according to the statement.

Both parties hoped that this resolution would be accepted and respected by all parties, and that the matter would not be politicized or used to undermine harmony, unity, and national stability.
