Alonso slams ‘assassination’ of classic F1 circuits

Fernando Alonso, a two-time Formula One champion, voiced his concerns over the decline of classic circuits in the modern era of hybrid cars. The Spanish driver expressed his hope for the sport to restore the excitement of racing on traditional tracks, criticizing the lack of overtaking opportunities at the recent Spanish Grand Prix at the Madring circuit. Alonso cited several other circuits, including Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, and Suzuka, that have been diminished due to current regulations.

Alonso, who currently sits in 19th place in the championship standings with only three points, suggested that the increased balance between engine and battery power might be the key to reinvigorating the thrill of F1 racing. The driver, who has likely experienced various F1 cars throughout his career, expressed frustration with the current state of certain tracks he once considered exhilarating.

Alonso lamented the loss of fun in races at Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, and Suzuka, where once-admired corners have become increasingly frustrating to navigate.
