2027: Lagos APC expels two Assembly aspirants

In Lagos State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled two former members and candidates for the State House of Assembly, Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf. The party's chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, announced the expulsions on Wednesday, citing anti-party activities and disloyalty as the reasons. Egunjobi and Yusuf had previously contested the party's nomination for the Agege Constituencies I and II, respectively, but were unsuccessful.

Afterward, they switched allegiance to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). This sudden move to a different party led to their expulsion by the Lagos APC. According to Ojelabi, the decision stems from the party's stance on anti-party conduct and breach of loyalty from its members. The constitution of the party, as amended in 2022, supports disciplinary action against such conduct.

The chairman also emphasized that members have the right to contest for elective positions but must adhere to the party's rules and regulations. The expulsion comes amid the 2026 electoral framework and guidelines set by the Electoral Act 2026. Ojelabi declared Egunjobi and Yusuf as no longer legitimate members of the APC, barring them from representing or acting on behalf of the party.

The Lagos APC remains committed to upholding discipline, internal democracy, loyalty, and compliance with its rules as it gears up for the upcoming elections.
