Trump Renames AI To "Super Intelligence", Says "Artificial" Sounds "Fake"

President Donald Trump has taken an unconventional approach to the AI debate by suggesting a more refined name for the technology. In a social media post, he argued that "Artificial Intelligence" is a clumsy and unappealing term to describe the emerging phenomenon. Instead, Trump advocated for more elegant descriptors like "Superior Intelligence," "Extreme Intelligence," or "Supreme Intelligence."

Taking his proclamation to the international stage, Trump delivered an address at the United Nations, proposing that all United States government documents, and potentially global ones, should adopt the more accurate term "superintelligence" instead of the current "artificial intelligence." Trump's penchant for renaming things, often with a negative connotation, is evident in his frequent use of disparaging labels toward political opponents.

The term "artificial intelligence" has been criticized for anthropomorphizing a technology that does not possess genuine intelligence, whereas Trump contends it's merely a matter of semantics.

The AI field has seen a surge of interest recently, with some experts warning of potential existential risks. AI leaders such as Dario Amodei from Anthropic have called for a slowdown in AI development, following accusations that the industry is recklessly gambling with humanity's future. Trump's enthusiasm for AI, however, mirrors the fervor of Silicon Valley figures who view AI as a path to god-like capabilities that could bring about both utopian benefits and catastrophic consequences.

Despite his fascination with AI-generated imagery, Trump has also been known to misuse the technology to fabricate scenarios, including the false depiction of the U.S. winning the war against Iran. Given Trump's track record of fabricating narratives to manipulate public perception, the suggestion of superintelligence might appear to be yet another divine gift to him.

The administration has seen other examples of its members embracing similarly controversial AI terminology. Earlier this year, Education Secretary Linda McMahon repeatedly referred to AI as "A1," likening it to the brand of steak sauce.
