S. Korea wins bronze in men's medley relay swimming

South Korea claimed bronze in the men's 4x100-meter medley relay swimming race at the Asian Games on Tuesday, breaking their own national record. The team, consisting of Lee Ju-ho, Choi Dong-yeol, Yang Jae-hoon, and Kim Young-beom, swam a time of 3:31.97 in the final at Tokyo Aquatics Centre. This victory came after South Korea previously set a national record of 3:32.05 in 2023, when they won silver at the Asiad. The new record surpassed their previous time by more than a second.

The team's anchor, Kim Young-beom, added to his impressive medal haul with this bronze, having already won two medals in three days. Korea's swimmers faced off against China and Japan in the final, with China finishing first in 3:27.89 and Japan in second at 3:28.70. Lee, Choi, Kim, and Hwang Sun-woo were the athletes who raced in the final, demonstrating a different lineup from the heats, which included Yoon Ji-hwan, Cho Sung-jae, Kim Ji-hun, and Hwang.

Hwang Sun-woo had already secured two bronze medals during the competition, first in the 100m freestyle on Sunday and then in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay relay on Monday. The medley relay format required each swimmer to cover 100 meters in the order of backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle. Lee Lee led the way with a backstroke leg of 53.92 seconds.
