Russian strike kills 2 in eastern Ukraine

Smoke billowed into the sky over Dnipro, eastern Ukraine, following a Russian missile strike, local authorities reported on Tuesday. President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was in New York advocating for Ukraine's position at the United Nations, was informed of the casualties while in the city. Russia and Ukraine have been intensifying their long-range strikes against civilian targets, such as factories, warehouses, and energy infrastructure, for months.

On Tuesday, the enemy launched an attack with missiles, drones, and artillery at four districts of the region, according to Dnipropetrovsk regional governor Oleksandr Ganzha via Telegram.

Dnipro suffered severe damage to warehouses and a business, resulting in two deaths and six injuries. Among the casualties were a 25-year-old man in serious condition, as well as men aged 35, 46, and 47, a 51-year-old woman, and another man in his 57th year who received outpatient treatment. Industrial facilities in Kryvyi Rig and Pavlograd, two other cities in the region, were also targeted by the Russian forces.

Zelensky is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, a source reported to AFP. Washington is currently resuming diplomatic mediation efforts to halt the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
