Orang Asli man killed in suspected tiger attack while searching for rotan in Sungai Siput

On September 22, an Orang Asli man named Zamberi Angah, 42, was killed in a suspected tiger attack while searching for rotan in a forest near Kampung Takung, Pos Perwor in Sungai Siput. Zamberi and a friend entered the Korbu Forest Reserve to gather the valuable plant material. The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) was alerted around 4:30pm, and a joint search operation involving multiple authorities began at 6:30pm.

Zamberi was found in a bamboo clump near a logging road approximately 200 meters from the suspected attack site. The site revealed evidence of a tiger attack, including bite marks on the victim's neck, signs of his right knee being eaten, and other physical indicators of a struggle and the tiger's presence. Lintang assemblyman and Perak Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industry Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun expressed deep distress over the incident, visiting Zamberi's family to offer condolences.

Perhilitan will provide financial assistance and safety advice to the victim's family, and a tiger trap will be installed in the area to enhance safety measures.
