Indian high commission warns against misuse of visa-free facility for jobs

The Indian high commission in Kuala Lumpur has cautioned Indian citizens against exploiting Malaysia's 30-day visa-free entry to pursue jobs. The advisory comes after a surge in arrivals of individuals allegedly misled by fraudulent job prospects. In a post on its official X platform, the commission emphasized that the visa-free option, intended solely for tourism and social engagements, should not be used for seeking employment.

This would constitute a blatant breach of Malaysian immigration laws. The high commission pointed out the growing trend of Indian nationals arriving in Malaysia with tourist visas to take up work. Many are reportedly swayed by unscrupulous agents offering false job guarantees, resulting in overstays, unlawful residency, abuse, detention, and legal repercussions.

The commission reiterated that Indians ought not to seek employment in Malaysia without a valid work permit or visa bearing a reference. Genuinely intending tourists are urged to present verified documentation such as confirmed departure tickets, hotel reservations, an online submission of the Malaysia digital arrival card three days prior to arrival, and passports valid for at least six months to sidestep immigration complications upon entry into Malaysia.
