Government tackling drug trafficking head-on – Tanko-Computer assures

The National Democratic Congress' Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Rashid Tanko-Computer, has assured the public that the government is actively tackling drug trafficking and addressing gaps in the country's security architecture. Speaking on Joy FM's Top Story, Tanko-Computer stated that the government has acknowledged the challenge and is taking decisive action to prevent Ghana from becoming a hub for illicit drug trafficking.

He emphasized that the government is "taking the bull by the horns" to ensure the issue becomes a thing of the past.

Mr. Tanko-Computer highlighted that the existing security architecture inherited from previous administrations was found to be porous concerning drug-related issues. He acknowledged that time has been spent trying to improve the situation in this area. The President, John Mahama, along with the relevant security agencies, are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary actions to address the drug trafficking problem.

Tanko-Computer assured, "I can assure you, the President is on top of the issue. We are on top of the matter, and we are following through with it."

These remarks come in the wake of concerns raised by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding recent drug trafficking cases and allegations of lapses in Ghana's ports and other entry points.
