2027 Elections: NDC hands Obi, Kwankwaso control of key campaign council nominations

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has granted authorization to its presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to nominate key officials for the party's Presidential Campaign Council prior to the 2027 general elections. This includes appointments for roles such as Director-General, Deputy Director-General for the North, campaign spokesperson, deputy spokesperson, Head of New Media, Finance Director, and Deputy Finance Director.

The decision was made after consultations among Obi, Kwankwaso, the NDC National Leader, and other party members. Osa Director, the National Publicity Secretary, revealed the arrangement in a statement, emphasizing that it aims to promote inclusiveness and unity within the campaign structure. The proposed organogram for the campaign council was prepared since August and forwarded to the presidential candidates for their input.

The nominations received from stakeholders across the country, and the party leadership has granted the candidates free hand to make nominations. The inauguration of the campaign council was originally scheduled for the first week of September, but it has been postponed due to Obi's travel commitments. The party is expected to proceed with the announcement and inauguration of the campaign council after receiving the candidates' nominations.

The Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director will work with the National Treasurer to manage campaign finances, depositing all funds raised into the presidential campaign account and jointly administering them.
