Eleven injured in shooting outside Turkish school

Eleven individuals were wounded in a shooting outside a vocational high school in Turkey, with a 15-year-old male suspect being apprehended by authorities. Two victims sustained critical injuries following the gunman's assault on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at the Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Manisa, a city in western Turkey.

All eleven injured were students at the school. The suspect's family members, including his parents and grandfather, who owned the firearm, have also been taken into custody, as reported by the country's justice minister, Akın Gürlek. This marks the third school shooting in Turkey this year, as the nation continues to address the ongoing issue of violence in educational institutions.

CCTV footage showed the suspect appearing calm as he checked a shotgun, which was clearly visible. The suspect, believed to be a student at the school, was seen running away with the weapon in his possession. The motive behind the attack remains unclear. According to Turkish law, the teenager must first appear in court before being officially arrested.

The country's education ministry expressed deep sorrow over the incident and stated that three national investigators have been dispatched to Manisa. The attack follows two deadly school shootings in April, which sparked outrage and led to new security measures for the upcoming academic year, including stricter gun regulations. Prior to these incidents, Turkey had not experienced any school shootings.

A previous attack in Kahramanmaras in April saw a 14-year-old gunman kill nine students aged 10 and 11 and one teacher, with the perpetrator dying at the scene.
