Your Anambra record is poor – Tinubu campaign council knocks Peter Obi

The Presidential Campaign Council of President Bola Tinubu has criticized the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, in a statement regarding his record as Anambra State Governor. Dele Alake, the council's spokesperson, alleged that Obi's tenure as governor was marked by poor fiscal management, claiming that Obi and his supporters portrayed his time in office as one of exceptional financial prudence.

Alake further suggested that Obi's image as a "squeaky-clean politician" was a facade. However, Obi responded by stating that the criticisms were a "well-packaged lie," adding that the Anambra State Government had exposed the falsehoods through their own disclosures. The Anambra State Government revealed that Obi spent approximately USD 4.05 billion (N5.4 trillion) during his eight years in office and contracted USD 123.77 million in external loans.

Moreover, the state government disclosed that there were eight different external borrowings for various purposes, such as malaria control, erosion control, education, and healthcare, which continued to be serviced by subsequent administrations, including Governor Chukwuma Soludo's, even after Obi left office on March 17, 2014.
