White House launches 'TRUMP TV' stream following controversial ban of major news outlets

On Monday evening, the White House launched a live broadcast platform named TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station on YouTube. This move came after President Donald Trump banned several major news organizations from the White House press pool. The live stream kicked off with a recording of Trump's 250th anniversary speech at Mount Rushmore.

Critics, including mainstream media members, have dismissed the platform as an attempt to create a state-run news outlet. Trump argued that the platform would enable him to communicate directly with the American public, bypassing what he called "fake news" media outlets. The White House defended its decision to ban CNN, Politico, and MSNBC from the press pool, asserting that while the First Amendment protects media freedom, it does not guarantee permanent press access.

The administration cited instances of press restrictions during the Obama and Biden administrations, stating that denying access to hostile outlets is not unprecedented. Trump also accused the media of distorting his achievements and damaging national security. He vowed to challenge the ban in court and emphasized the importance of treating the Oval Office with respect.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani of New York City criticized the ban, advocating for the inclusion of all press members.
