CNN, MS NOW and Politico sue Trump, challenging White House ban

The trio argues that the action infringes upon their First Amendment rights to freedom of speech and a free press. The lawsuit, seeking a temporary restraining order, was filed in a federal court in Washington, D.C., with a hearing scheduled for the following day.

The legal challenge asserts that the ban serves as a direct affront to the First Amendment and represents a blatant violation of fundamental constitutional principles. In their joint statement, the outlets emphasized that their rights should not be subjugated to government interference and that press freedom is essential for the public's right to independent journalism.

Trump's decision to ban the outlets came after he accused them of spreading "FICTION and LIES" regarding his administration on social media. The White House, however, maintains that the ban is not an assault on the free press but rather a response to what it labels as "FAKE NEWS." The outlets emphasized that the ban prevents them from directly engaging with government officials and obtaining firsthand information crucial during an election year.
