‘Whatever we earn, the Ganga takes it away’: How Bihar floods are playing out on the ground

Outside a tent made of black plastic sheets at Tilha Kothi in Bhagalpur, Raj Kishore lies on a cot, salvaging what remains of his possessions after floodwaters entered his home nearly a month ago. The 25-year-old lost everything, including documents, cash, and jewelry. Kishore was in Hyderabad when his family informed him that water had entered their home in Didarpur Bind Tola.

Upon arriving in Bhagalpur, little was left to return to. His home is still submerged in dirty water, with visibility obstructed. His wages for the past month are still unpaid, and his family's belongings were destroyed by the floodwaters.
