DAP MP Lim Lip Eng has raised concerns over the delay in initiating an inquiry into the fatal shooting of three men in Durian Tunggal, Melaka last November. On August 10, he informed the police that they would file a request for an inquiry, two weeks after the Attorney General's Chambers had directed such an inquiry to be conducted. Two months have passed since this decision was made.

Lim urged the police to ensure that the individuals involved in the shooting incident remained in Malaysia throughout the proceedings, expressing concern that they might flee the country to avoid testifying. This incident echoes a recent case of a group armed confrontation at a luxury condominium in Kuala Lumpur, where six foreign nationals were accused of evading the country following allegations of illegal entry. These suspects are now required to be pursued with the help of Interpol.

In the Durian Tunggal case, the authorities should not wait for the suspects to leave the country before launching their investigation. Lim urges the police and the Attorney General's Chambers to utilize all legal measures, including requesting passport surrender or travel restrictions, if there is a legal basis to do so. This is not about judging them before they are questioned; it is about ensuring their presence when required by the court.

The victims of this incident were M Puspanathan, 21, T Poovaneswaran, 24, and G Logeswaran, 29. They were shot dead on November 24 after one of them allegedly attacked a police officer with a knife. An investigation was launched under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. However, in December, the AGC directed the case to be reclassified as murder.
