Typhoon cuts short one of the world's biggest video game fairs, grounds hundreds of flights in Japan

Typhoon Hidetate, a powerful storm with winds reaching 144 km per hour, has disrupted a large portion of Japan. The JMA, Japan Meteorological Agency, warned on Sunday that rainfall and winds would intensify, even before the typhoon's arrival. The storm's proximity to Tokyo, approximately 110 km away on Hachijojima island, prompted warnings of heavy rain and potential landslides.

The typhoon's impact was immediate and severe, leading to the early closure of Tokyo Game Show, one of the world's largest video game trade fairs. The fair, which opened on Thursday, was called off on its final day, Monday. Over 4,000 households in Chiba, located next to Tokyo, were left without power, and the JMA and local authorities warned of possible landslides.

Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways were among the airlines that canceled flights due to the storm. JAL canceled 120 domestic and 15 international flights, while ANA grounded 140 domestic flights. Railway operators in Tokyo and neighboring regions also suspended services on certain lines, further complicating travel for many residents.
