Flood, Landslide Warnings In Japan As Typhoon Dujuan Approaches East Coast

Typhoon Dujuan neared the eastern coast of Japan on Monday, generating intense rainfall and hazardous winds, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). The agency cautioned that conditions could rapidly escalate as the typhoon neared the Tokyo metropolitan area. Torrential downpours had already soaked the Izu Islands, Chiba Prefecture, and other Pacific coastal regions, with certain locales receiving over 300mm of rain since Saturday.

The JMA forecasted that the downpours would intensify later on Monday as the typhoon approached the Kanto region, encompassing Tokyo and surrounding prefectures. The Asian Games in central Japan's Aichi Prefecture temporarily halted an equestrian competition due to the impending typhoon. Concerns were raised about the formation of linear rain bands, narrow areas that could receive torrential rain for several hours, heightening the risk of flash floods and other rain-related disasters.
