PM vows to make seamless preparations to launch Global AI Hub

SEOUL, September 21 (Yonhap) -- Prime Minister Han Seong-sook pledged on Monday for the government to ensure smooth preparations for South Korea's Global AI Hub initiative. The plan involves determining the most suitable location for the hub through a fair and transparent process. In May, South Korea outlined its ambition to establish the Global AI Hub to consolidate the AI expertise of international entities to tackle issues like disease management and climate change.

The hub aims to foster cross-border collaboration in AI among nine global organizations and five multilateral development banks. It is set to serve as a platform to deliver AI-driven solutions to pressing problems under the "AI for All, AI to Solve Global Challenges" vision. Prime Minister Han stated during the inaugural meeting of the preparation committee that it is time to move beyond mere declarations.

The government will devote swift efforts to establish a dedicated support system and select the optimal location through a fair and transparent selection process.

The priority is to realize an "AI-based society" where everyone can equally benefit from AI advancements, Han emphasized. The Global AI Hub is viewed as the cornerstone of this policy, acting as a comprehensive platform to realize this vision.
