Nawara petitions Ghana Police over alleged armed raid, gold seizure and destruction of mining equipment

Nawara Company Limited has petitioned the Ghana Police Service to investigate an alleged armed raid on its mining site on August 12, 2026. The incident reportedly resulted in a death, gunshot injuries, robbery, and destruction of valuable equipment. In a petition to the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department, Nawara requested an independent investigation into the incident and the subsequent events at the mining location.

According to the company, heavily armed men in multiple vehicles entered their premises around 10:30 a.m. The company seeks clarification on who authorized the alleged seizure of their equipment, including gold and gold concentrate worth over GH¢100 million. Nawara also demands the recovery of the stolen items. The company claims the situation escalated as some individuals returned to the site and set fire to mining equipment following media coverage.

They have requested police examination of CCTV footage, photographs, vehicle registration details, and telecommunications records, along with interviews with witnesses, employees, and security personnel. Nawara emphasizes the need for urgent action, emphasizing their commitment to operating lawfully and urges the police to treat the matter seriously.
