Metris secures $5M to build a unified data layer for energy assets

Metris Energy, an artificial intelligence platform designed for managing energy assets, has secured $5 million in seed funding. The investment was led by PT1 Ventures, Octopus Ventures, AENU, and Blackfinch Ventures, with additional support from Plug and Play and Love Ventures. This brings the company’s total funding to $7.5 million.

Metris was established in 2025, initially concentrating on assisting solar portfolio operators to integrate data from various sources, including inverters, meters, SCADA systems, CRM systems, spreadsheets, and finance tools. Over time, the company has broadened its focus, aiming to offer a unified data layer for the entire energy sector. Metris targets the fragmented systems employed by power producers to manage their assets.

As energy grids become increasingly decentralized and new revenue streams emerge, such as flexibility, curtailment management, community energy, and corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs), the data required to access and manage these assets is often dispersed across multiple systems. Metris' platform consolidates data from asset systems, metering, SCADA, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and energy markets to generate a real-time record of physical energy assets.

This provides asset owners with a live view of their portfolios and serves as the foundation for automated workflows, natural-language queries, revenue management, and AI agents.

The company recently launched Metria AI, a new AI interface capable of executing complex tasks that were previously managed manually by operations teams. Natasha Jones, the founder and CEO of Metris, emphasized that the company is addressing the absence of a unified system that allows asset owners and AI agents to view and act on energy portfolios.

Metris was founded on the belief that the future winners of the energy transition will not be those with the most capacity (measured in kilowatts), but those who can effectively view, control, and monetize their assets. The current gap that Metris aims to close is the lack of a unified layer that enables asset owners and the emerging AI agents to view and act on their portfolios.

Metris reports eightfold year-on-year revenue growth and currently manages over 10,000 solar plants, representing 500 megawatts (MW) of capacity for power producers. The company plans to utilize the new funding to enhance the platform's agentic capabilities and extend its offerings to wind and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems. Additionally, Metris intends to expand its operations across Europe, with a particular emphasis on Germany, where it has already acquired several new customers.
