Kulim man charged with murder after allegedly killing wife in fit of jealousy

KULIM — A 43-year-old former technician, G. Vikneswaran, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court today with the murder of his 39-year-old wife, S. Sila, who was allegedly killed in a jealous rage at their home in Taman Tiram. Vikneswaran appeared before Magistrate Nur Hamizah Mat Shah, who read out the charge but did not record a plea as the case is under the High Court's jurisdiction.

He faces charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which can result in the death penalty or 30 to 40 years in prison, with at least 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not applied. Deputy Public Prosecutor S. Preeyaa represented the prosecution, while Vikneswaran was unrepresented. The court has set Dec 8 for further mention.

Initially, media reported that the woman had died after being stabbed 13 times by her husband. According to Kulim district police chief Supt Syamsul Sinring, preliminary investigations suggest jealousy may have been the motive, and Vikneswaran later surrendered to the Lunas police station.
