Kulim man charged with murder after allegedly killing wife in fit of jealousy

A man from Kulim was charged in a Malaysian court for allegedly murdering his wife due to jealousy. G. Vikneswaran, who is 43 years old, appeared in Magistrate's Court before being informed of the charge. However, no plea was entered as the case is under the High Court's jurisdiction. Vikneswaran was accused of killing S. Sila, a 39-year-old woman, at their Taman Tiram home between 6.30 pm and 9.04 pm on September 14.

Prosecutors framed the charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which allows for the death penalty or a sentence of 30 to 40 years in prison, with at least 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not imposed. Deputy Public Prosecutor S. Preeyaa handled the case, while Vikneswaran had no legal representation. The court set December 8 for the next hearing.

Initial reports indicated that the victim died after being stabbed 13 times by her husband at their residence. Kulim district police chief Supt Syamsul Sinring mentioned that preliminary investigations suggested jealousy as the possible motive, and the suspect subsequently surrendered at the Lunas police station.
